You will also receive a promise to be repaid the face value of the bond at maturity.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">The Federal Government of Nigeria issues different types of bonds to meet different objectives.\u00a0 The most common is the FGN Bonds which are issued for long term <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">ranging from 5 years to 10 years and there is possibility <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">that 20 to 30 year <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">bonds may be in\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\"> issue in time to come. There is also the Euro Bond which is denominated in foreign currency and is targeted at global institutional investors; the Diaspora Bond which is also foreign currency denominated is targeted at Nigerians in Diaspora.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">The Bonds issued by the federal government usually have long duration or maturities, sometimes for as long as 20 years.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">However, in March 2017, the government introduced the FGN Savings Bond in response to market demands.\u00a0 The FGN Savings Bonds have shorter <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">duration of between 2 \u2013 3 years and pays higher interest rates (coupon). \u00a0The FGN Savings Bond is the focus of this post<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"has-vivid-cyan-blue-color\" style=\"font-size: 30px; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff; font-size: 24px;\"><strong>What You Should Know About the FGN Savings Bond?<\/strong><\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">It is a retail bond product introduced by the Federal Government of Nigeria to enable the low income segment<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\"> of the society to participate<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\"> in funding government infrastructural projects by investing in the bond market.\u00a0 In doing so, it also provides an alternative window for low income earners to save money and get attractive returns on investment.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\"><strong>How Is FGN Savings Bond Issued?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">The FGN Savings Bond is issued monthly by the Debt Management Office in tenors of 2 and 3 years.\u00a0 The offer for subscription is usually opened for five working days and the interest rate or coupon is determined by the DMO.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\"><strong>Coupon Rate<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">This is the interest payable on bonds and as highlighted earlier, for the FGN Savings Bond, the coupon is determined by the DMO based on prevailing market indices. Interests on these bonds have ranged between 13 \u2013 14 percent for the two-year <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">bond and the three-year <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">bond respectively.
